Hey Coach,
I've heard this a lot the last couple of weeks.
"This offseason challenge might be the most impactful thing we've done."
And it makes sense.
You're not just going through content right now. You're actually thinking. You're building a vision. You're putting together a real plan for next season.
Most coaches never slow down enough to do that.
But here's the part we can't ignore.
What you're doing right now…this is the easy part.
Planning is fun. Vision is exciting. Everything makes sense on paper.
The test comes later.
Because change is hard. Breaking habits is hard. Teaching something new is hard. Staying with it when it doesn't look good yet is really hard.
You're not going to see results overnight. This isn't microwave work. It takes time.
And honestly, most coaches don't stick with it long enough.
I heard a GM from a major college football program speak recently. One thing he said stuck with me:
"If you can't adapt, change, and try something new, you can't work for us."
Then he added this: 95% of coaches go right back to their old habits the second things get uncomfortable. They hit resistance and go back to what feels familiar, even if that's the very thing that's been holding them back.
That's really what this comes down to.
It's not about knowing what to do. It's not about having access to better ideas. It's about staying with something when it gets uncomfortable.
So when you think about next season…anything you've said you're going to implement… You must accept that it's going to be harder than you think. It's going to move slower than you want. There will be moments where you wonder if it's even working.
That's part of it.
Players are adjusting. You're adjusting. You're building something different. Adversity doesn't mean it's wrong. It usually means you're doing something new and that learning and growth are happening.
And if you can stay with it a little longer than most, that's where things really start to shift.
We'll be here to help you through that part. Not just the planning. The sticking-with-it part.
Keep going.
Stay SAVI,
